Football.London: football writers


Football.London is the first 24/7 fan-led resource for the Capital’s Football Clubs. Trinity Mirror plc is seeking three talented writers and football fans to join our regional central team as our Club Writers. Reporting to the Digital Head of Sport, you will shine a light on the issues fans really want to know about, providing rolling coverage of the latest news, and creating interactive quizzes and games.

Trinity Mirror plc , with an award winning portfolio of newspapers, websites and digital products, is one of the UK’s largest multimedia companies employing over six thousand people across more than sixty locations around the country.

We’re looking for a media professional who is passionate about football and understands what content fans of your club want. We want you to have a fan mentality and journalistic background when it comes to delivering compelling and relevant content and the ability to work as part of a digital-first news operation.

We expect our employees to maintain the highest personal standards of professionalism and integrity at all times within the framework of current legislation. Ensuring that Trinity Mirror’s editorial and company policies are upheld across the newsroom and maintaining a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code is required.

In order to succeed in this role you will:

  • produce content around a London football club which will appeal to and engage audiences
  • cover major stories and breaking news on your club in a fast-paced digital environment
  • create and maintain contacts to help source news stories around your club
    work collaboratively with other members of the team over ways to improve and innovate the site’s output
  • use social media to engage with and build our audiences
  • assist with long-term planning and produce content ahead of major events
  • use analytics and data intelligence to guide your own content production
  • source third-party content, including video, audio and pictures, where appropriate to add value to content
  • ensure all work at all times conforms to Trinity Mirror policies and procedures

What you need to know

Trinity Mirror plc has a strong benefits package which includes, for this role, a base salary of £25- 30,000 per annum (depending on experience), 33 days holidays including Bank holidays, a competitive pension along with an extensive flexible benefits portfolio. As this role requires a 24/7 operation, you will need to work shifts and have a driving license.
