Having the opportunity to commentate at a game at Old Trafford encapsulates everything that is BCOMS.

BY USMAAN AKHTAR

As a young lad growing up as a Manchester United fan, I could only dream of these moments. BCOMS made these dreams a reality. They continually open doors to opportunities we couldn’t imagine.

The concept of something is too big isn’t within their vocabulary. And this was a testament to that. I had started live commentaries as a football fan in my bedroom. But due to BCOMS I was sat in the commentary box for the first time knowing my dream was becoming a reality.

The experience its self is something I’ll hold fondly, as I got to achieve something I never knew was attainable in such a short time. BCOMS throughout have provided us with a platform and in this case a fantastic helping hand in Tom Gayle.

On the day it’s self he was nothing short of professional and helpful. Passing on his knowledge and wisdom to help ease the unsurprising nerves. I myself a novice no doubt learning as the game proceeded. Tom once again provided us with honest feedback which we then implemented within the second half.

Not only was it an experience to tell the future kids it was a huge learning curve. An opportunity to understand what it takes to make it as a commentator. It allowed myself to further enhance my capabilities and skill set within this field. Something I’m truly grateful for.

Of the back of this experience, I know have a gauge on the difficulties of becoming a commentator. I also have a better understanding of my skill set and my areas in which I need to improve to truly catapult myself into this realm of work.

All in all, a brilliant opportunity, one I’ll truly cherish.

Aaron Cikaya also worked on Radio Commentary and joined Usmaan for the coverage.

Describing the opportunity, he said:

“Doing commentary for the U23s game between Man United & Everton was an incredible experience. It’s something that I will forever cherish and never forget.

It’s crazy how certain kind of come full circle in life. As a kid growing up I used to pick up a spoon and imitate commentators and add my own little spice of commentary to the one on TV. Years later I did it for real.
I can’t write all this without mentioning BCOMS who have made this possible. It was definitely an eye opener that this is a field I can definitely see myself in.
I will keep working hard to get more and more opportunities such as this & learn as much as I can.”
