MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BCOMS MASTERCLASS

BY MAYA EGBO

Despite only being part of this years BCOMS cohort for a few months, I have been presented with a number of amazing opportunities.

From masterclasses with lead industry professionals to paid work experiences with brands such as Nike and The London Marathon. BCOMS has immersed me into a ‘family-feel’ community of talented and like minded young people who too, are eager to get their foot through the door in the sports journalism industry.

Recently my colleague Cayana and I were asked to host the D Word 4 Guide event. I felt honoured to be part of such an important and insightful event that highlights the lack of diversity in the industry and pushes for more inclusivity for people like myself. Our entire cohort was invited, and I’m sure they’d all agree it was very useful for us to be in the room with industry leaders. It was a chance for us to network with new people and make connections of our own.

For someone who has always dreamt of working within sports, BCOMS has been an extremely helpful and engaging programme that I am so thankful for.

I have personally made a lot of progress in a short amount of time that definitely wouldn’t have been possible without the programme.
