What’s my personal contribution? Publishing thescottishsun.co.uk first thing in the morning and leading the sports team at weekends at the same standard as the daytime/midweek operation.

What are my key accountabilities?

  • Publishing thescottishsun.co.uk from first thing in the morning and leading the sports desk at weekends at the same standard as the midweek/daytime operation
  • Editing and polishing stories to ensure the highest standard of presentation, particularly in headlines and pictures to best maximise traffic
  • Constantly improving the quality of stories, checking for updates and fresh lines and pictures, particularly on large live stories
  • Overseeing weekend reporters publishing breaking sports stories and strong content to best maximise traffic
  • Reacting to breaking sports stories in an imaginative way
  • Planning ahead so that major sporting events are covered imaginatively in order for The Scottish Sun to stand out from the crowd
  • Using analytics to ensure best placement and selling of stories
  • Liaising with social team to ensure all content published is known about and pushed
  • Using analytics to ensure best placement and selling of stories
  • Ultimate responsibility for the presentation of the sports/football page first thing in morning
  • Ultimate responsibility for the building of leftover paper content
  • Aim always to improve the speed of publishing and updating of sports page
  • Working flexibly, including weekend shifts

Must haves:

  • Senior digital production experience on a national title
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with team and management
  • A wide sporting knowledge, be ideas-driven and creative
  • Understands Scottish Sun DNA and how it translates to website
  • Knows what a Scottish Sun reader wants and how this can be delivered
  • Understands the production process for a sports website
  • Capable of leading and motivating a team
  • Calmness under pressure
  • Attention to detail and an inquisitive nature
  • Proficient with technology and able to adapt
