Forest’s revival under Sean Dyche continued as they came from a goal down to a 3-1 win over Leeds United at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon. Dyche was satisfied with the reaction of his players with Ibrahim Sangaré first club goal, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson extending the Reds’ unbeaten run to three games in all competitions.
The Forest head coach reflected in the post-match conference how much the win was needed, referring as well to the recent team’s performances: “Everyone needed this and as the manager, I needed it as much as anyone. Trust me, it’s hard winning games in the Premier League but the signs have been really clear since we’ve got it.
“It is not just wins, there have been so many things we have been working hard to sort out. No clean sheets in 20 minutes, people talk about how we haven’t scored enough goals, we haven’t scored enough from open play, we cannot defend corners. It’s been relentless but we’re working hard to change them.”
The Forest manager remarked on how his captain Morgan Gibbs-White is capable of getting called up again for England and how vital it is for him to keep playing enjoying himself.
“He got in it so that doesn’t mean he can’t get in it again. He’s had unfair question marks and fairly or unfairly is irrelevant. I said to him don’t worry about it, just keep working hard and enjoy what we’re doing.
“He’s a good player, I want him to get in the area, to go and score goals and to enjoy what he’s doing. Getting himself back to the basics of what he does, that energy, that’s what I call infectious. His on-pitch presence and being infectious around the group and then going and relaxing the scoring goals. I’m very pleased for him.“
Leeds United have now lost three straight away games, sitting 16th in the Premier League table just a point above the relegation zone ahead on the international break. Despite the opening goal from Nmecha being the highlight of the game for the away outfit, Daniel Farke urged to make known that the team is not panicking.
“Right now it’s all a bit tighter, but we are far away from panicking. I judge our season so far, we have 11 games and 11 points, that’s a point average we need to stay in this league.
“We were not on one game day under the line, so never in the relegation zone. This is also good, could have been better, if we would have won a few more points in the last two away games but if I’m honest, in my dream version we are never in danger. We cruise easily, always with several points ahead.”
The German also responded to the fans’ discontent after the loss, understanding the disappointment and remarking on how small details affected the game.
“Everyone was, after each loss in the Championship, doubting that we would go up. We won the league with 100 points, 100 goals and the best season in history. This is what always happens after a loss so I think everyone has the right to be a bit critical, because in the last two away games we’ve conceded too many goals.
“It’s quite normal to be disappointed and angry after a loss. Small details are always decisive for the outcome of the game. There were a few details that were not good enough today especially after a really good start. We should be more in it to give this lead so easy and so cheap away. We should have taken the aphorism of going ahead to be more on it, more pressure on the ball, more on it in the duel.”
