Tom Gayle on leading our first BCOMS North Programme

By Tom Gayle

First and foremost, I must say a huge thank you to BCOMS and BBC Sport for entrusting me to lead the inaugural BCOMS North Masterclass Programme.
Diversity within the sports media is a huge passion of mine, and as a boy from Stoke-on-Trent, the chance to push for greater regional diversity within the industry is just as important.

Despite the challenges presented by COVID, I could not have asked for more in terms of content delivery from our various Masterclass hosts. Each one has gone above and beyond in sharing their career journey, offered honest reflections on the keys to their success, and been extremely selfless when passing on relevant practical skills.

As restrictions begin to ease we have had the added bonus of being able to meet as a group in person, with additional wow factors being provided by our most recent hosts, The National Football Museum and Manchester United Football Club.

I’m fortunate to be working with a group of talented and hard working individuals who are determined to make the most of the programme. Some of whom their journey is just beginning, whilst for others, they’re already making waves. Either way, the North is making moves.

Tom Gayle is the Programme Lead for BCOMS North, aswell as a Freelance Broadcast Journalist. He carries out regular work for BBC TV and Radio, Sky News Radio and RTE Radio. You can follow him on Twitter @Tom_Gayle.
