ESPN is currently seeking an Assistant Editor to join our ESPN Editorial team based in Hammersmith on a permanent basis.

The Department

We have continued to grow our brand presence since 2008 and have become an important brand within the minds of sports fans and in the wider Disney Organisation. As a leader in multimedia sports entertainment with over 50 business assets, we televise 65 sports in more than a dozen languages on all seven continents.

The Role

The Assistant Editor is responsible for the management and upkeep of the ESPN.co.uk front page and sport-by-sport indices, as well as taking responsibility for specialist areas of editorial coverage as specified by the Senior Editor and News & Content Lead.

Responsibilities include:

  • Site Management of the ESPN.co.uk site, primarily content amplification, headline-writing, photo management, sourcing material, uploading of content and maintenance of blogs, fantasy, social media and other ancillary products
  • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of the world of sport, especially those not covered by other EMEA sites, which would be expected to include a good grasp of current affairs
  • Management of live events
  • Driving content ideas around an always-on, developing sports agenda

About You

Suitable candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Must have an excellent knowledge of domestic and international sport, and the ability to use existing technology and adapt to future changes
  • Should have a journalistic qualification and/or experience of working on a digital offering
  • An ability to identify and amplify quality content, showing off the very best of ESPN across all platforms
  • An ability to write standout headlines
  • An ability to ‘sell’ content utilising a variety of new and existing platforms and methods
  • Attention to detail and an ability to embrace new technologies
  • A passion for sport
  • An ability to discuss and write about sport
