BCOMS NORTH HOST VICKI SPARKS AT LIVERPOOL FC

The North group attended an exclusive masterclass at Anfield Stadium hosted by Liverpool FC.

Paige Eagle

The busy day at Liverpool FC started with an inspiring chat with Gary Quinn. He shared with the BCOMS North Cohort a series of information about the way the communication side of the Sports industry works, along with his own personal journey.

The class got a tour of Anfield, went in the dressing rooms, walked through the tunnel and onto the field. They also got a behind the scenes look at where some of them could be visiting in the future on their sport media duties

The day drew to a close with Vicki Sparks joining the group on zoom. The students completed tasks about commentary and some brave individuals volunteered to commentate on some memorable Premier League moments in front of the group. Vicki also spoke about her time at the World Cup this year and how the cohort could build their skills in commentary to appeal to employers.

Overall, the day was jam packed with key advice from professionals with an underlining goal of making the sports media industry more diverse.

In amidst train strikes and bitterly cold weather I was delighted the Masterclass was even able to take place, and this is despite our host, BBC Football Commentator Vicki Sparks, testing positive for coronavirus just hours before we were due to begin!

It was another brilliant day in the BCOMS North Masterclass Programmes journey.

Rishi Jain and all the Liverpool staff we met were extremely welcoming and helped deliver a truly memorable day. I look forward to continuing BCOMS relationship with the club moving forward.
