BCOMS X News UK Media Community Day


The media community day took place at the Trafford Fives Centre in Manchester on Friday 27th January.

In partnership with News UK the event was targeted at young people aged between 16 and 19, with the aim to give them an opportunity to find out more about careers in the sports media.

The evening consisted of two Q&A’s, the first one starting with Les Snowden (Assistant Editor and Head of Sport for the Times) and Sandra Brobbey (Sports Journalist, The Sun).

Les and Sandra spoke about their respective careers from climbing the ranks in written media to starting out in the industry in your 40’s. They both spoke about their favorite interviews and advice they would give to those aspiring to work in the industry.

After the Q&A, it was time to play football on the Trafford Five a side pitches, let loose and get some exercise in.

The last Q&A was with BCOMS alumni and News UK staff member, Toni Afoke (Assistant Producer at talkSPORT) and Aadam Patel (sports journalist Daily Mail). Toni and Aadam who are both in the early stages of their career spoke to students about getting into the industry, the importance of networking and creating your own content.

The aim of the event was to gain insight into university courses at UA92 and find out more about the BCOMS masterclass programme.
