One of BBC Sport’s priorities in the years ahead is the return of cricket to BBC TV, with live and highlights coverage from 2020. The Cricket TV Editor will take a lead in the delivery of this coverage, working as part of a single multi-platform cricket team.
In addition to their cricket role, the Editor will also be charged with commissioning new sports-related content for BBC iPlayer, to help BBC Sport achieve its objective of reaching a younger audience.

Reporting to BBC Sport’s Head of Cricket, the Editor will be part of a senior team responsible for the delivery of cricket across all platforms and services. They will specifically lead on TV, overseeing production of the live coverage of the new 100-ball domestic competition, plus highlights of every men’s and women’s England home international match.
Together with the Editor of the BBC Sport website they will drive the BBC’s online coverage of cricket, including through social media and short-form video. And working closely with the Test Match Special lead, they will develop a talent strategy for the sport that will particularly appeal to a young and diverse audience.
They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, with specific focus on the rights-holding governing body as the BBC increasingly focuses on its public service remit around driving participation in sport.
Aside from TV cricket, the Editor will also commission sports programming for iPlayer. This is a crucial route for BBC Sport to reach audiences, especially 16-34 year-olds, and the Editor will work with colleagues from across the division to deliver bespoke iPlayer content that is distinct from and complements our live output.
The role will exercise considerable discretion within broad limits of editorial reference and manage a diverse multi-skilled production team.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in the management of live productions and in developing creative ways to reach and engage with audiences.
They will have a proven record of delivering innovation and driving change, as well as line management experience of large and diverse teams and the ability to influence and manage internal and external stake-holders.
Importantly the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cricket, as well as of leading broadcast talent in the field and the wider TV production sector.
They will have significant experience of TV and digital production workflows, including social media, and a proven ability to commission output for younger audiences.
