My love of sports started at 8 years old. I was fortunate to become a professional football player by coming through non-league into the pro game. My drive and determination to make it into football will be transferred into sports media. I can talk openly and share my experiences of being an athlete, and I would transfer that skill into my media work so the audience can get an insight into the day of an athlete. Whilst playing, I had a condition known as epilepsy, and I’ve used my pro platform to spread awareness, and I’d use my media platform to do the same. My skills of being in front of a camera and doing many interviews in my 15 years of playing would be transferable. Hopefully, I can gain more confidence and experience with BCOMS. Being a minority with a misunderstood disability, I’d love to be able to help people understand the condition through my platform and to be able to inspire people that they can do sports with Epilepsy. The sports that I have grown up interested in have been Football, F1, Tennis, NFL and the Olympics (mainly 100m and 200m sprint)
As an athlete, I will have a different tactical insight into the sport and understand the mindset of athletes from a completely different angle than other journalists and presenters.
I am driven and passionate about sports, news, story-telling, and fact-gathering. I am also keen on conducting interviews.
The sports media industry plays a massive role in the world of sports. I want to serve as a bridge between athletes and fans by providing valuable information about games, players, and teams. I want to express myself by doing what I love: match reports, story-telling, and conducting interviews. I also want to come out of my ‘comfort zone’ to try out new things as an individual who is learning his craft as a sports journalist.
The key skills and experiences I will bring to the sports media industry are that I am a competent writer who can convey stories to a high standard.
– Producing written content and working to deadlines.
– Researching, planning and producing in-depth copies to ensure good quality of work.
– Prepared, rewrote, and edited several pieces per week to improve readability.
I have experience editing podcasts and videos through Adobe Audition and Adobe Premiere Pro, and I can do this well.
– Quality control of podcast editing and post-production.
I have contributed to many projects in the sports media industry. However, I had the privilege to write voluntarily for an online youth sports publication called ‘EliteScholars’. The mission at EliteScholars is to inform and inspire the next generation of athletes and fans by providing quality journalism and content creation. I was incredibly proud of the work I produced for EliteScholars because it helped me understand what is to be expected when working as a sports journalist. I was able to pick up valuable lessons that I learnt, which I will be able to bring into any sports industry media work.
Firstly, as a young person who is willing to learn to become a top sports journalist, I would like to develop myself by being able to conduct interviews confidently. Secondly, being open to different opportunities I may not have encountered before means stepping out of my comfort zone to produce content. Lastly, concerning the 2024-25 BCOMS Masterclass, I aspire to give it my all, knowing that I gave everything to enhance my chances of working in the sports media industry. I want to leave a considerable impact and inspire others. To make it in the sports media, you must give everything and be committed to the course from the very start, and I aim towards that.
What inspires myself to connect with audiences through sports media?
I believe entertaining the audience is extremely crucial to gain connection. Sports journalism uses various mediums to bring the fans closer to action, including live broadcasts, podcasts and social media. Sports media also provides a massive platform for debates and discussions among fans to share their opinions. Sports media can inspire the audience to be the best version of themselves. Plenty of stories of athletes who have had to overcome adversity to achieve their respective goals can give us hope and motivation, reminding us that we can achieve greatness if we put in the effort.
What motivates me about finding my place in the sports media world is knowing it’s a space where I truly belong and where collaboration thrives. I’m excited by the opportunity to connect with people from all realms of the industry and constantly learn. I bring a Gen-Z perspective, with an understanding of emerging trends and a knack for making content relatable. I’m proactive, constantly seeking out niche topics and exploring taboo issues that often go unnoticed. I am talkative, personable, and full of creative ideas! Storytelling is my passion – my ability to creatively depict sports narratives, alongside critical analysis, is where I excel. By immersing myself fully and engagingly from the start, I hope to make an impact. I also hope to bring fresh ideas to the table, especially through exploring intersectionality within sport. I want to dive into why athletes become cultural icons, as well as the relationship between gender and media scrutiny. I hope to highlight these often-overlooked connections and bring them into the conversation. Importantly, Thiago Silva’s story has had the most impact on me. Despite facing life-changing decisions after being diagnosed with tuberculosis early in his career and being told he could never play football again, he overcame these obstacles and went on to win some of the highest accolades in the sport, establishing himself as one of the greatest defenders ever. I use his story as a guiding mindset, especially as I begin my own career. It reminds me that setbacks don’t define you; with perseverance, you can still achieve greatness.
After graduating with a 1st class degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Manchester in July 2023, I started working as an accountant at Deloitte in September 2024. I then got fired for failing exams (which was a blessing in disguise). I left Deloitte at the beginning of January 2024, and decided journalism was the pathway for me. I won the BCOMS X Chelsea bursary to study the NCTJ, subsequently completed it to a gold standard in July 2024.
I have since created sports pages on Instagram and TikTok, which have gained over 700,000 views and 45,000 likes. I write a football blog, and have interviewed the likes of Reece James, Troy Deeney and Wes Morgan.
I’m a storyteller and love the process of using my creativity to convey stories. My bread and butter is writing but I am well versed in video, audio and the skills required of a journalist in the modern day.
My goal is to build a successful career in Sports media, become the first black sports editor at a major newspaper and be an inspiration to the next generation of sports journalists.
I’m inspired by the power of sports to unite people and tell stories that transcend cultures and backgrounds. Growing up in Nairobi, where street five-a-side football was a daily part of life and everything comes to a standstill when Manchester United play Arsenal or the Springboks face the Shujaa, I developed a deep appreciation for how sport connects communities and ignites passion. This upbringing drives my ambition to work in sports media, sharing these moments with audiences worldwide.
I have a strong background in production and social media management, with experience contributing to major events such as the Olympics, EUROS, Nations League, WINTL friendlies, and Premier League MD-1 press conferences during my time as a freelance assistant editor and assistant producer. These opportunities taught me how to work collaboratively with teams on-site and in production, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality content. I’ve also managed live updates on platforms like X and Instagram for media outlets such as Sports Gazette and Africa Sports Unified.
Now, I want to take a more hands-on approach, focusing on creative storytelling that goes beyond the game itself. I’m passionate about highlighting the culture, narratives, and personal stories within sport. For example, witnessing a sold-out Emirates Stadium for the Women’s Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and Wolfsburg was a moment I’ll never forget—it showed how far women’s sport has come. As a young woman with both a Muslim and African background, moments like these feel deeply personal and inspiring.
I still remember the whole world watching in awe , alongside the whole world, as Eliud Kipchoge broke the two-hour barrier in the marathon- a moment that perfectly captured the unifying and inspiring power of sport. Moments like these fuel my drive to connect fans with the stories behind the action, bringing authenticity and creativity to sports media.
I’m motivated to enter the sports media industry because I’d like to improve intersectionality, especially in motorsport where black women remain as the minority. I am passionate about sharing stories from underrepresented voices and providing a new perspective on sports due to my background.
My strengths include my proficient communication motivated by my curiosity and desire to learn about people’s journey’s into the sports field as well as sports impact on people’s lives. I’m resourceful, proactive and always aiming to make the most of any opportunities provided to me.
My proudest moment was hosting the Silverstone Museum’s Mclaren STEM Panel and watching young women be inspired. My passion for improving diversity is highlighted through my blog raceforinclusion.wordpress.com and work with Driven By Us, the first ethnic motorsport club.
The sporting moment that has a lasting impact on me was Hamilton’s double overtake at Silverstone 2022. It was my first live sporting event, watching the surge of energy in the crowd gave me an understanding of the impact of sports in creating community. Through my social media (@motorsportliv) I have created a community where people have been inspired to pursue careers in motorsport through my content, which continues to inspire me.
Upon entering the industry, I hope to enhance my communication to make sports accessible and create a safe space where interviewees can share their stories, allowing fans to feel connected. I hope to promote intersectionality and affirm the fact that everyone deserves a space in sports.
I am a caring, communicative, and individual person who is looking forward to applying my experience and skills towards the sports media industry. For the past seven years, I have been accumulating knowledge and experience in athletics, and I look forward to putting it into practice, while learning new skills.
My strength in communication and ability to work in different teams is a strength of mine. In sports media, it is so important to build genuine connections with people while working efficiently with others. In 2023 and 2024, I volunteered at the Diamond League in Spectator Services, and I hope to work there again in 2025. The Diamond League has events all over the globe, and it is so rewarding knowing that I contributed to the efficiency of the event.
In order to succeed in the sports media industry as a sports journalist, presenter or content creator, I must improve my skills. Specifically, my technical abilities in camera operation and video editing need to be developed, alongside my knowledge of other sports like football.
In 2018, Dina-Asher Smith ran 10.85 in Germany. I remember feeling so excited and motivated whenever I saw her compete because she competed with such elegance and grace. She also hit the sub-11 mark in that particular race. Representation is key and there are so many stories to be told.
Everyone experiences sport differently, and there are many perspectives that can go unnoticed which must change.
The adage “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life” rings true regarding me and sport! And that’s what makes me so excited to one day work full time within this sector. Whilst my wide range of experience in media includes presenting, writing, visuals & audio and content creation and makes me the ideal candidate for any opportunities, I’d appreciate any chance to refine these skills, especially in long-form writing. I’m reliable, a quick learner, communicative, and creative; I always attempt to think outside of the box.
I’m particularly proud of a charity football stream that I presented this past May, as this was my first opportunity to present sports separate from my university course. It gave me a taste of what I could make of myself as a presenter. (The match also raised £1400; not bad at all!)
I’m motivated by the idea of my work, whether it be presenting, content creation or writing, accompanying some of the most popular sporting moments, so that my work can have a lasting impact on an audience, the same way the 2020 Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix had an impact on me because of David Croft’s ability to narrate Lewis Hamilton’s record-tying championship title perfectly. It ultimately pushed a then 16-year-old Thierra to give sports journalism a real go. This sporting moment still lives in my mind, and I struggle to imagine it without Croft’s voice. I hope to inspire someone the same way one day.
I am motivated by my passion for storytelling and my belief in the power of sports to connect, inspire, and unite people across cultures. The sports media industry excites me because of its dynamic nature and ability to amplify voices, share compelling narratives, and bring communities together. The opportunity to combine my love for storytelling with the energy of sports drives my ambition to contribute to this field.
I have developed a robust skill set in research, video production, and visual storytelling. I have also excelled in the role of a Gallery Production Assistant, thriving in the control room with hands-on experience in live production. One of my proudest achievements is producing a mini-documentary on the history of teaching at my Taekwondo club, where I’ve trained for 14 years and earned my black belt. This project showcased the club’s legacy and highlighted the perseverance required to succeed in the sport.
A sporting moment that has deeply inspired me since the age of eight is Jessica Ennis-Hill’s iconic victory in the heptathlon at the 2012 London Olympics. Competing on home soil, her extraordinary versatility and determination captivated the nation, symbolizing strength and pride for women in sports. Her journey reminds me of the transformative power of sports stories, and I aspire to connect audiences with similar moments of inspiration.
I’m eager to expand my skills in live broadcasting and digital content creation, aiming to craft impactful narratives that resonate with diverse audiences worldwide.
I am a colourful and charismatic sports media professional with a deep appreciation for relatable and engaging content, finding a niche within American Football, Motorsport, Baseball, and Hockey. I aim to bring the world of sport to life, sharing and inspiring younger generations of women, especially those of colour r. My journey is rooted in a love for storytelling and a commitment to making sports more inclusive and accessible. I aim to create a better connection between athletes, teams, and fans, giving real insight into the people behind the accolades.
Having grown up between Trinidad, England, and the U.S., I have developed a tact for intercultural communication. I’ve also been praised for my kindness and adaptability.
My experience spans several sectors, having worked as a media assistant for the University of Reading Knights American Football and Karting teams.
I have also interviewed Christian Gonzalez of the New England Patriots. In between, I find time to work on my passion projects in sports documentaries.
A memorable moment was watching my friends win the British University Karting Championship. The hard work and devotion that went into achieving this added an extra layer of emotion to the day; I’ll remember it for life.
When I was younger, three things were ever-present in the communities that raised me: sports, good food, and camaraderie. It was one of the few ways my family came together. For me, sport has always been a place that feels like home—something I hope those who watch me see.
I’m driven by the power of sports media as both an Track&Field athlete and a creative. I bring a unique perspective to the industry, combining sports knowledge with a degree in business management. My goal is to redefine content production, creatively showcasing athletes stories in a relatable way. I thrive in exploring the diverse environments that sports can provide, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
My experience includes founding “Athlete Tribune” a platform delivering interviews and content beyond traditional formats. As Chair of the London Youth Games youth program, I focused on enhancing social media interaction, resulting in greater youth involvement in sports. I work with ‘Black in Sport’, where I manage social content and initiatives, and presented at events like the Project 17 Cup, creating BTS content and Vox Pop features.
I aim to deepen my knowledge in editing, graphics, and production to execute ideas creatively. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire the public to connect with all sports whether as participants or supporters whilst encouraging representation in the industry. Within broadcasting, I add a fresh relatable voice, showing creativity can inspire change whilst creating authentic and engaging content.
One defining moment for me was witnessing in person Sydney McLaughlin break the 400m hurdle record at the Paris 2024 Olympics. It felt like I was manifesting my future, imagining competing in LA 2028 but also seeing the untapped potential for innovative content to elevate athletics that I could produce.
I’m inspired by the multifaceted nature of sport and its ties to culture, fashion, music, and community. Through the umbrella of sports media, I aim to connect audiences with sports in ways that encourage participation and representation, showing that it’s a space for collaboration

I define myself as a storyteller, always seeking to share powerful narratives that resonate with audiences. As an aspiring presenter and broadcast journalist, I am galvanised by the idea of being part of progressive, tangible change in the industry. Passionate about sharing stories that not only entertain but empower, and inspire. The ability to influence how stories are told and who gets to tell them is both a responsibility and a privilege I am eager to embrace.
With strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, I excel at connecting with people, which are vital qualities for any presenter. My ability to empathise and communicate effectively further enhances my storytelling, ensuring each narrative is authentic and engaging. As a multi-hyphenate, expressing myself through poetry, content creation, acting, and writing, creativity fuels me and is an integral asset in a fast-paced industry. I thrive in chaotic environments, and there’s no better place for that than the world of sports!
I’m eager to develop my live broadcasting skills and deepen my understanding of the technical aspects of sports media. My goal is to make a lasting impact by creating space for underrepresented, diverse voices like mine into mainstream sports. Alongside, shifting the narrative to portray athletes as multidimensional individuals, humanising them, highlighting that they are people and not just products. I hope to be part of the change we see and need on our screens, and inspire people who look like me that it is equally as possible to achieve, as it is to dream.
