My experience so far with BCOMS has been one to remember.
In the short space of time which I have been part of it, it has proved to be a platform which guarantees to reward you if you’re willing to apply yourself. In two and a half months I’ve taken part in numerous events and masterclasses which either directly or indirectly arose from my involvement on the programme.
It has allowed me to see and experience the world of sports media from the inside, something which as a young person from a minority ethnic background I’ve dreamed about but struggled to achieve for many a year. The people I’ve met which before I could only see on TV and the wisdom they shared was unparalleled.
Being a football fan, my most favourite moment so far was visiting the Arsenal vs Fulham match as a representative of the media. To brush shoulder to shoulder with other professionals in the industry and to live the matchday experience as a journalist was a remarkable feeling.
I’ve met some incredibly driven and ambitious young people. The collective motivation to succeed has seen the students share other media events outside of BCOMS, many of which I’d have never known about.
I’m looking forward to the following months and excited for the future opportunities that should undoubtedly be presented thanks to the first-class professionalism and dedication of the BCOMS programme.
Perhaps most importantly, I was able to secure employment with one of the world’s leading TV sports broadcasters: Eurosport. Thanks to the connections that mentors at BCOMS have, I was able to bypass all the recruitment bureaucracies and go straight to the hiring managers at Eurosport. Again, it’s something that was possible only because of the programme.
