TalkSPORT MASTERCLASS

News UK and TalkSPORT hosted us for an unforgettable masterclass.

Our first London masterclass of the month was at News UK for a special evening. We were hosted by BCOMS alumni Toni Afoké and Kweku Afari who shared their journeys with us into sports media and how they came to work at talkSPORT and what their day to day responsibilities entail and their future projects.

After sharing their experiences we went into a Q&A session where our cohort was able to ask Toni and Kwekyu questions about their career, interviewing athletes and the learning curb that takes place when working for a big media company.

We were then in for a treat when former England football player turned talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent came in to answer our questions. Darren answered all of our questions after about an hour being asked about his professional career, time as an England player and his experience transitioning into sports media. The assignment was then to write an article based on the answers heard in the “press conference”, the best ones will then be featured on the talkSPORT website.

To end our day at News UK we split up into groups of two, half the room stayed back to network and mingle while the other half was given a tour of the talkSPORT studios. During the tour we got to see the studio and get an insight into the production of different shows, live on air shows and what happens during a match day at talkSPORT.
